An opportunity for connection, and the exchange of experiences, knowledge, and ideas

To mark Africa Day, which is celebrated every year on May 25, Nelt in Dobanovci yesterday welcomed more than 20 students from Angola, Mozambique, and Zambia, currently studying in Serbia through the “World in Serbia” program. The visit was an opportunity for connection, the exchange of experiences, knowledge, and ideas – just as emphasized by the African philosophy of Ubuntu: “I am because we are.”

Bojana Mucić, Chief Human Resources Officer, presented the company’s operations as well as our factories – Baby Food Factory and Neoplanta. In her conversation with the students, she spoke about the values we nurture, the youth programs we run, the internships we offer, and the ways we build and develop talent within our organization.

Marija Pavlović, HR and Communications Specialist, then gave the students an overview of our operations on the African continent. She shared stories about our teams in Angola, Mozambique, and Zambia – what their workdays look like, how they spend their free time, as well as the experiences of our expats living and working there.

After the inspiring stories, the students toured the intermodal terminal, where Nikola Mumin, Intermodal Terminal Manager, guided them through the workflows and daily operations. The visit continued with a tour of Warehouse Hall 5, accompanied by Radivoje Ćalasan, Manager of Technology and Warehouse Improvement.

Particularly engaged were the students of medicine and transport engineering, who showed great interest in how we organize storage, the conditions in which goods are kept, and the safety and hygiene standards we apply.

There were many questions – from how the cold chain is maintained, how temperature and humidity are controlled, to how the quality of raw materials and finished products is checked in our factories, especially when it comes to food for the most sensitive population – babies.

The visit concluded at the Galovica Event Pavilion, where a casual discussion was joined by Ivan Janjić – formerly our HR Business Partner for the African market and now HR Manager at BFF. They talked about cultural differences, the types of food the students have enjoyed in Serbia, and there was even some fun – the students gladly tried their hand at learning the traditional Serbian kolo dance!

The students shared their impressions of staying in Serbia, emphasizing that they feel welcome and accepted here. They described the people as warm, hospitable, and always ready to help. They were particularly surprised by the size of the hamburgers, while unanimously naming sarma as their favorite Serbian dish they’ve had the chance to try.

This visit highlighted the richness that cultural and experiential exchange can bring, and how values such as unity, solidarity, and mutual respect are truly universal – and present in our day-to-day work.
