Nebojša Šaponjić and Marko Cilić Participate in CFO Conference
How is trust built between a company owner and a CFO?
Nebojša Šaponjić, founder and co-owner of Nelt Group, and Marko Cilić, Chief Financial Officer and Acting CEO of Nelt Group, participated in the “CFO with Purpose” conference organized by the CFO Association of Serbia.
During the session “CEO/Owner Reality Check for CFOs”, Nebojša spoke with Marko about what makes a great CFO from an owner’s perspective, how geopolitics and AI have changed expectations of the finance function, and where CFOs make the biggest impact.
Nebojša described a good CFO as someone who understands both the processes and the company itself, knows when to slow things down and when to push forward, and never loses sight of long-term stability, even under short-term pressure.

“The business environment today is far more unpredictable than it was 10 years ago, and accordingly, CFOs must react quickly without losing their long-term perspective. Today, CFOs must be among the key drivers of company transformation,” Nebojša stated.
He emphasized that trust between a company owner and a CFO is built through transparency and honesty, regular communication, and the CFO’s ability to be direct and say what the owner may not want to hear.
The traditional annual “CFO with Purpose” conference, held at the Fruške Terme hotel in Vrdnik, brought together more than 300 participants this year, including CFOs, C-level executives, representatives of government institutions, and international experts.
