In the contemporary business environment, the tendency of digitalization of all business processes is evident. By digitalization of business processes it is meant the “translation” of all events, operations and data, into a digital form, i.e., a form that can be processed by computers. Data can be of various type – structured or not, developed at high speed, in different intervals (very often in real time), which makes it complex to analyze.

The supply chain (as a system of organizations, people, activities, information and resources involved in movement of products and services from producers to consumers) consists of an entire chain of links, i.e., companies or sectors which in their business operations implement specialized software intended for optimization of certain business processes. Each specialized software in its operations uses large quantities of data and information. In the objective of assessing  the performances of the entire chain, it is necessary to somehow integrate, process, i.e., transform the data from each software and create unified information which shall enable the management faster and easier drawing of  right conclusions related to current quality of operations, realization rate of defined key performance indicators (KPI), clearer perception of prior successes and mapping of trends which can be used for setting of new business strategies.

This is really the key reason why the sector named “Nelt Group Supply Chain Operational Excellence” went into further digitalization and automatization of operational processes – through the realization of different projects such as Digital Delivery, upgrading of WMS functionality, creating of software for optimization of sales and delivery routes and similar, as well as the development of adequate analytical platform for collecting, integrating and processing of all specialized software, in the objective of holistic view of Supply Chain operations, and thus creating of adequate reporting tools.

Power BI, as currently one of the leading tools in the field of automatization of processes of data processing and interactive visualization of results, was chosen for drafting of reports. Although the realization of the last-mentioned project, popularly named LogRep (short for Logistics Reporting), shall be carried out during the next several years, the first steps in this direction have already been taken, and as the old Chinese proverb says: “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step“.

Strategic commitment of Nelt Group to invest in further development of the system for gathering, keeping, organizing, protection, verification, processing and management of data, shall be of significant help on this journey, and shall bring numerous benefits both to Nelt Group itself as well as all its business partners – from principals to costumers, because data analysis derived from input data will enable better understanding of needs of all actors in the supply chain, especially the end users. This shall create a chance for defining of common strategy and creating of offer of products and services, which shall best suit consumer needs.

Our journey into the digital world began a long time ago, and now is gaining a completely new dimension. We intend to enjoy our further journey hence “One’s destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing thing” (Henry Miller).
